Six Nations

Friday the 4th of February marks the beginning of the The Six Nations Championship. This is an annual international rugby tournament involving six European teams- England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France and Italy.

Rugby is a very popular sport in the United Kingdom and we are all very excited for the championship to start!

Have you played or seen a rugby match? What sports are popular in Spain? Do you have similar competitions?

I've only seen some short parts of rugby matches, because I don't like it very much.
In Spain many sports are played: tennis, football, basketball...
This year the Spanish team of some of these sports have been World Champions. The Spanish team won the World Competition in South Africa.
Rafael Nadal is the best tennist of the world too.

I love sports, but I prefer playing them than watching them (although I'm very bad playing them).
I love basketball. This year I've started to play basketball in the sports centre of Olivares, with some other girls of the class (M.del Mar, Fátima, Belén,...). We usually go to basketball matches outside of Olivares on Fridays and Saturdays. I like it very much.

When I was in tennis classes in the sport center ,I went to play matches in other places around Andalucia

I have played only a rugby match. I did it with my classmates the last year, when our P.E. teacher was teaching us the basic rules of this sport. I don’t like it very much, but I have watched two or three rugby matches on TV. :)

In Spain, the most popular sports are football, handball, athletics, tennis and basketball, but there are very good Spanish sportsmen and sportswomen, who played in other sports, as hockey, gymnastics, swimming, water polo, voleyball, cycling and the Formula 1 and motorbike racings.
From five years ago, Spanish sportsmen have obtain a lot of achivements: the Spanish Football Team has won the FIFA World Football Cup (2010) and the European Football Cup (2008); the tennis player, Rafa Nadal, is the best in the world and he has gained a lot of tennis competitions. Also, the Spanish Tennis Team has attained the Davis Cup (2008 & 2009); the Spanish Basketball Team has obtain the first place in the FIBA World Championship (2006); the cyclist, Alberto Contador, has achieved the 1st place in some tournaments “Il Giro d’Italia” (2008), “Le Tour de France” (2007, 2009 & 2010) & “La Vuelta a España” (2008); ...

In Spain we only have three type of sports competitions: national competitions, where only play Spanish teams or sportsmen, European tournaments, where play the teams and the sportsmen or sportswomen from our continent, Europe, and World championships, where could play all the countries of the Earth.

I love sports, I like watching and playing them. My favorite football club is the Sevilla F.C., my favorite basketball team is the Cajasol and I like baseball very much, but it isn't very famous in Spain, and I watch the matches of the American League of Professional Baseball Clubs on TV. I like playing sports to get fit, so I go jogging one hour a day, and every weekend I play some matches of different sports with my friends in "La Plazita", a small square which is next to my house.

What about you, friend? What are your favorite sports? Where and when do you practise them? :D

I want to tell you about the rugby and others sports.

I don't like the rugby and of course, I have never seen a match.

Here in Spain is not very common, it's not like the football, the tennis or the basketball.

I think the most popular sport is football. Real Madrid or Barcelona are the most famous teams.

Formula 1 is also very popular because Fernando Alonso is Spanish and he's twice world's champion.

In footbal we have the King's Cup and the BBVA Leage.
